Ryan Miller and Steve Ott traded to St. Louis Blues for Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, prospect William Carrier, a first-round draft pick in 2015 and a third-round pick in 2016. There goes my 2nd favorite goalie in the NHL and now I have no reason to watch the Sabres anymore.
Obviously my #1 is Lundqvist.

Dude you live in Long Island.
Why aren't you an Islanders fan?

I'm actually a NYR fan. I don't mind the Isles much but... dat Nassau Coliseum is a heap of shit.

Ok good. The only Sabres fans should be weirdos from upstate New York.
I've only heard bad things about that place.

Moginly, LaFontaine, Hasek, Hawerchuk, May...
I have a LaFontaine autographed puck.

Upstate isn't all bad... and I think most people in the Buffalo area would consider themselves from "Western NY," not "upstate."

I'm in Albany right now for college, and if a Ranger game and a Buffalo game are on at the same time, they air the Buffalo game, 100% of the time. You tell me.

This is what I'm kind of tired of about the new NHL. It used to be a player was a part of a franchise and could be there for a long time, developing the program. Now players get tossed around so much that there's just no consistency. It becomes hard to root for teams, and you end up just liking players all over the continent. Steve Ott was a long time member of the stars but now gets tossed around like a $1k used 240, and a cornerstone member of the Sabre's just gets up and traded... It's pretty frustrating. And that's before you even get into the Stanley cup whores.

I've grown up a Blues fan and live in Chicago. This has made quite a few people here nervous.

My friend is a diehard Devils fan and he's heard rumors of Marty being traded and he's ready to flip a shit, so in a way I feel your pain.

Wings still do a good job of holding onto players (sometimes past their prime cough cough Dan Cleary cough cough), but yes, it is rough when longtermers like Iginla or Alfredsson or Nash or Miller get moved (or move of their own accord) because the investment in the overall team isn't what it needs to be to remain competitive.

I'm not sure what their end game is (complete rebuild?) but the Sabres front office seems to be taking its business plans directly from the Browns staff.

I can't imagine Marty ever leaving NJ. I'd like to think he'd retire after this year as a Devil.

I am 7 months late here, but there are those of us who like it way out here and don't get why people always have to rip on us b/c we share a state with NYC, which is 6 hours away.
Yes we are not good at sports and yes we are not terribly progressive. But we're also have our own sort of solidarity as a community that makes life enjoyable.

HOW DID YOU FIND THIS

Haha I searched "Sabres" on Oppo to see if anybody lives in the area. I figured that they suck, so nobody outside Buffalo could possibly care about them

For some reason, if both a Sabres game and a Rangers game is happening at the same time, Albany TV will show the Sabres game over the Rangers game. It makes no sense.

Well NY is really two states, one of which is the NYC/Long Island area, and the other is everything else. Since NYC is usually the only part of the state outsiders ever seem to care about, I think the rest likes to distance itself from NYC because it's a world apart in culture/politics. Hence why you get Buffalo games, because they're the only team that represents that population. (also why I'm more into the Blue Jays than the Mets/Yankees)

That sounds about right.
